A Hilton Hotel in Langstone, Wales, has suffered an outbreak of what is likely norovirus. 74 people, including both staff and guests, fell ill beginning last week. Symptoms included vomiting and diarrhea, consistent with norovirus. The hotel enacted “stringent existing health and safety procedures” to address the situation, and the hotel remains open to the public. A Public Health Wales consultant describes the outbreak as being consistent with a viral infection passed person to person; notes the ease with which norovirus is spread in this way; and cautions any persons recovering from these symptoms not to return to work or school for 48 hours after illness. As of Tuesday, no additional illnesses had been reported for more than 48 hours.
