Katie Gensel obtained a B.S. in Zoology with a minor in Microbiology, and a B.A. in Spanish Language & Literature at North Carolina State University, followed by additional coursework and research in food microbiology. She spent several years as a Research Technician at UNC Chapel Hill, conducting experiments on the evolution of novel host use in bacteriophage and managing the lab. Past research experience includes transferability and persistence of norovirus, endocrine controls of avian reproductive behavior, and avian population research.

Katie is the Administrator and Communications Director for NoroCORE, managing NoroCORE communications, meeting & event planning, maintaining the NoroCORE website, and preparing print materials for the Collaborative.
